Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on your nationality and the length of your course. Students coming to Ireland for more than 90 days may need a long-stay ‘D’ visa before travelling if they are from a visa-required country. Students staying longer than 90 days must also register their immigration permission after arrival. Always check the current requirements for your nationality before applying.
Yes. Eligible non-EEA students holding valid Stamp 2 permission can generally work up to 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during the designated holiday periods. Students must meet the conditions attached to their immigration permission and cannot rely on casual work as their primary source of financial support.
Eligible graduates may be able to remain in Ireland under the Third Level Graduate Programme after completing an eligible Irish qualification. Level 8 graduates can receive up to 12 months of graduate permission, while eligible Level 9 or above graduates may receive up to 24 months subject to the applicable conditions. The permission is designed to allow graduates to seek suitable graduate-level employment and pursue an employment permit.
Stamp 2 is an immigration permission that allows eligible non-EEA students to study a qualifying full-time programme in Ireland. Students holding Stamp 2 may have permission to work under specific conditions, including the applicable weekly working-hour limits. The permission is subject to the conditions attached to the student’s immigration status.
International students can choose from eligible higher-education programmes across a wide range of disciplines. Ireland’s eligible study options include higher-education programmes from NFQ Level 6 to Level 10, as well as foundation and eligible English-language programmes. Students should confirm that their chosen programme and provider are eligible for their intended immigration permission.
Yes, eligible higher-education students may undertake internships or work placements when they form an integral part of an eligible academic programme. Certain placements can allow students to work more than the normal 20-hour weekly limit when the placement meets the applicable academic and immigration conditions.
Yes. International students can find scholarship and funding opportunities through Irish universities, higher-education institutions and other organisations. Availability, eligibility and award amounts vary, so students should check each institution and scholarship provider for current requirements and deadlines.
It is best to begin several months before your intended intake. This gives you time to research courses, compare institutions, prepare your academic and financial documents, meet English-language requirements, apply for admission and complete any required visa and immigration steps before travelling.
